Here’s what my bathroom has looked like of late.
It’s been quite disappointing having the huge hole. But now, after two good days of working, one of which involved cutting an old drain pipe, which was disgusting…
It’s not much, but I am SO happy that I sort of have a floor in there. No more balancing myself on the beams. They’re not screwed down yet and it’s not exactly level, but I feel like I’m finally accomplishing something.
This Sunday, I ran 3.25 miles and felt ok afterwards. Maybe I can do this half-marathon after all.
So, my friend Laurie Strahinski emailed me the other day, asking if I wanted to run a half-marathon with her in August. Now, as I’m easily 50 lbs. overweight, this seems to be a ridiculous idea. But, because I am an idiot, I agreed. I have been going to the gym off and on (more off than on), so it’s not like I’m starting from scratch. My first week, I could run two miles pretty easily. Now, I’m up to three miles in just under 40 minutes. So, I’m not breaking any speed records, but I’m doing ok. I’m trying to run three times a week, though I’m not sure how my knees will hold up.
I bought a new ipod because my old one would just stop playing for no reason. I also got a nikeplus thing to keep track of how far I run. After one run where it just didn’t work properly, it now seems to be ok. I like it because it gives me all the information that I like to see when running. I want to know exactly how far I’m going and how fast. It’s just something to keep my mind off the fact that I’m running.
Tonight, I finally got off the old cast-iron drain from the tub. It was connected to the main stack with lead. So I had to drill some holes into it and then just chisel it out. I broke one drill bit (9/16″ RIP) and also cracked the screwdriver that I was using to pry it out. But, after about 2 hours, I got the pipe out. So, I’m very happy that’s over.
Tomorrow, I start playing with fire. I have to unscrew the old drain from the sink. Mickey told me that I should heat the joint up as hot as I can and then try to unscrew it. I’m hoping that I don’t burn my house down in the process. Once that’s done though, I can put the new floor down and finish framing out the exterior wall and the new wall going around the gas line.
